Let’s clear the air on secondhand smoke

  • Secondhand smoke causes premature death and disease in children and in adults who don’t smoke.
  • Workers shouldn’t have to choose between their health and a paycheck.
  • As little as 30 minutes of exposure to secondhand smoke can trigger a heart attack.

Everyone Deserves to Breathe Smokefree Air!

The debate is over. The science is clear. There is no safe amount of exposure to secondhand smoke. Secondhand smoke is a combination of smoke from a burning cigarette, pipe or cigar and smoke exhaled by the smoker. In Alabama, more than 800 deaths each year and more than $166 million in personal medical costs and productivity losses are attributable to secondhand smoke.
